Driver Who Killed 9-Year-Old Girl Blames Her—Until Dashcam Footage Exposes the Truth

A courtroom was left in shock when Qadeer Hussain, 55, blamed a nine-year-old girl for the crash that ultimately claimed her life. But newly released dashcam footage revealed the heartbreaking truth: Hussain had run a red light at high speed—ending Alice Williams’ life as she crossed the street with her family.

On July 8, 2023, Alice was on her way to a summer celebration in Halifax with her mother and 6-year-old brother when tragedy struck. As the family began crossing at Kings Cross Road, Hussain—driving a black Vauxhall Corsa—accelerated to 49 mph in a 30 mph zone, trying to beat a red light other vehicles had already obeyed.

He didn’t see Alice, who was just steps ahead of her family.

The impact left Alice critically injured, and despite the efforts of medical staff, she passed away a few days later in hospital.

At first, Hussain tried to cover his actions, insisting he was driving legally and blaming Alice for “running into the road.” But police uncovered dashcam footage showing the full story: Hussain deliberately sped through the red light, believing no one was crossing.

He eventually pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

On Friday, Hussain—a father of two—was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court to 8 years and 4 months in prison. He was also banned from driving for 10 years and 2 months.

In court, Alice’s grieving mother, Claire, described Hussain’s actions as “aggressive and monstrous,” telling him, “I will never be whole again.”

Alice’s younger brother, Joe, called him “mean and bad,” adding, “If drivers speed, they are mean and bad because they know they shouldn’t do it. It makes me feel very sad.”

In a powerful family statement, Alice’s loved ones said:
“Qadeer Hussain destroyed our daughter Alice and devastated us… We want drivers to think of Alice before taking risks. Her killer may regret his actions now—but it’s too late.”

They added:
“Alice was a happy, bright bookworm. A funny, loving and gentle daughter, sister, granddaughter and friend. We will always be so proud of her.”

Detective Sergeant Steve Suggitt from the Major Collision Enquiry Team said:
“This sentence will not bring Alice back, but we hope it brings some closure. This was a truly tragic case, and we thank everyone—especially those who shared dashcam footage—that helped bring justice.”

Authorities are now urging all drivers to consider the consequences of reckless driving—and encouraging the public to install dashcams, which proved vital in securing Hussain’s conviction.
