Newborn Abandoned in Landfill: Authorities Confirm Shocking Discovery

In a deeply disturbing incident in Saint-Étienne, located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France, residents of an apartment building were awakened in the early hours of Sunday, March 24, by faint, heart-wrenching cries that sounded unmistakably like a baby.

Around 4:30 a.m., as concerned neighbors stepped out of their homes, they were met with a chilling scene—trails of blood leading toward the building’s trash area, a dimly lit corridor that led to the basement. Alarmed and fearing the worst, they immediately contacted emergency services.

The cries and fresh blood suggested the baby had only just been born.

Emergency responders, including the Départemental Fire and Rescue Service of Loire (SDIS) and a team from the Loire Samu, rushed to the scene. What they found was harrowing: a newborn baby, abandoned and suffering from hypothermia, still attached to the umbilical cord.

A doctor at the scene quickly provided critical care, stabilizing the infant. According to France Bleu, the baby was in surprisingly good health despite the traumatic circumstances, and their life was not in danger.

The newborn was transported to the CHU hospital in Saint-Étienne, where they remain under medical observation. An official investigation has been launched to uncover the circumstances behind the abandonment and to identify those responsible.
