Salmonella Alert: 1.7 Million Eggs Recalled in 9 States – What You Need to Know

Urgent Salmonella Alert: 1.7 Million Eggs Recalled Across 9 States

A major Salmonella outbreak has triggered the recall of a staggering 1.7 million dozen eggs distributed across nine states in the U.S.

On June 6, 2025, The August Egg Company announced the recall following an extensive investigation by the CDC, FDA, and state health departments.

Which Eggs Are Affected?
The recall targets organic and cage-free brown eggs marked with plant codes “P-6562” or “CA-5330” and Julian dates ranging from 32 to 126. These eggs were sold under popular brand names like Clover, First Street, O Organics, and Simple Truth.

Where Were They Sold?
The recalled eggs reached shelves at major retailers including Walmart, Safeway, FoodMaxx, and Ralphs across states such as California, Nevada, Arizona, and Illinois. Look for sell-by dates between March 4 and June 19, 2025 on your cartons.

What You Need to Do
Consumers should immediately check their egg cartons. If your eggs match the affected codes or brands, do not consume them. Instead, discard the eggs or return them to the store for a refund.

So far, 79 Salmonella infections have been reported, but officials believe the true number could be higher.

Why This Matters
Salmonella infection, or salmonellosis, can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, and stomach cramps. While many recover without medical treatment, it can be dangerous for young children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems. In rare cases, the bacteria can enter the bloodstream, leading to serious complications.

Stay Safe:

  • Always wash your hands thoroughly when handling eggs or raw food.
  • Cook eggs thoroughly to kill any harmful bacteria.
  • Avoid consuming any eggs from the recalled batches.

Health authorities are closely monitoring the outbreak and will update the public if the recall expands. If you experience severe or persistent symptoms after eating eggs, seek medical attention promptly.
