“The whole nation is in mourning, heartbroken by the devastating news of her passing.”

Remembering Kate Kaufling: A Bright Light Gone Too Soon
Kate Kaufling, a 20-year-old sophomore nursing student at the University of Kentucky, passed away on March 31, 2024, after a brave and inspiring battle with osteosarcoma.
Born in 2003, Kate was more than a student—she was a vibrant force on the UK dance team and a beloved member of the Tri Delta sorority. She shared an unbreakable bond with her twin sister, Abbey, who danced alongside her on the team. Even after her diagnosis in June 2023, Kate remained fiercely dedicated to her studies and passions, embodying resilience and grace.
Her presence left a lasting mark on everyone she encountered. University officials, friends, and teammates remember her as a beacon of kindness, determination, and joy. “Her smile could light up a room,” said Coach Dawn Walters, a sentiment echoed by all who knew her.
Kate is survived by her loving parents, Holly and Steve, and her twin sister, Abbey. Though her time was far too short, Kate’s spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Her courage, warmth, and unwavering strength will continue to inspire for years to come.
